A normal day in my life
I wake up 6.30, and then I take a shower. After I have got ready I eat egg and bacon with milk for breakfast. I make my food to me and my wife on five minutes. After breakfast, I do read the news at internet. I use to read VG an Aftenposten. 7.15 I am on my way to the job; I use bus and the subway. We do not have a car because there are so many and big expenses. My office’s address is: Strandveien 15, 1366 Lysaker. When I come to my job at 8.00, I often take a cop of black coffee before I start to work.
I work as structural engineer in “Mesta”. Structural engineers work specially with load-bearing constructions as bridges, tunnels and quay structures. My job is to construct bridges and tunnels, but I am educated to take other jobs in the skilled trade too. At my office I use computer to construct different constructions. I work a bit with development of different ways to job, and different remedies. Some days I am at my office, some days at different sites and some days I am in meeting with other engineers. I do a lot of things, I take phone calls, design bridges and tunnels, I see that it is done at the sites, and more things in this ways.
When I work with roads and tunnels, I do work much with Mesta’s geologist; Stein Berg. He is a good man; he knows incredible much about his profession. Stein has taught me many things about making tunnels and roads; where the ground is safe and stable and how you can see if the stone is porous.
My office is new and modern; I have a good blue office chair, a computer at my desk, and many books about mathematic, design, architecture and some about historical buildings.
I do eat lunch 12.30 every day, I use to eat salad or lunch packet with sandwich. I eat my lunch with my colleagues in the canteen at my job.
I got this job because I wanted a job, where could work with peoples security at the road. In Mesta I design bridges and tunnels that are safe. Another reason to that I got the profession, was because the head in Mesta liked my attitude. I had the qualification to the job; 2 years further education (building trade) and 3 years study at the university or college in Oslo.
I like my job very much, especially because I “love” mathematic and do something you hopefully can see in many years forward in time. In my job I am coming in contact with many new peoples, and I am a very social guy. But even because I like my job so much now, I also want to take master’s and maybe doctor’s degree in structural engineering. This is my ambitions, and they are great.
My working-day is finish 16.00, and then I take bus and the subway home. Some times I am driven home by one of my colleagues. When I come home from my work, I turn on the TV and watch at the news 16.30. After the news, I do make dinner. To dinner my wife and I eat different things, we have everything from meat soup till scrimps. Pizza and pasta is the food we eat most often to dinner.
After the dinner we take an evening walk together with our dog. The walk use to be around an hour long. We walk different trips. When we come home I use to take a shower. At Mondays I am at the training studio from 17.45 to 19.15. I walk or cycle to the studio, because it just is 3 km from our flat at Tøyen.
At the evening I look at TV, read and/or use my home computer. I use to read criminal novels. And there use to be a thrilling movie 20.30 at TV3.
Around 23.30 I do use to go to bed.
